Plan, what plan?!?
No plan – that was me.
A love/hate relationship with planning, which is contradictory when you consider I have a PRINCE2 project management qualification and that “Creating a Plan” (the theme we’re exploring during November) is one of my favourites!
What turned hate/hate into love/love has been an ongoing process.
Having spent time employed in project management in my working life, clearly I can get my head around spreadsheets and Gantt charts. What I wasn’t so good at was planning my life – that was an ad-hoc process, which generally involved responding to what came my way rather than creating it. At that time, I didn’t even realise I could create it in the way I know now.
A definition of creation is:
“the action or process of bringing something into existence”
and our “Creating a Plan” theme is about bringing the life we want into existence. To do that we need to know what we really want.
When I look back to when I wasn’t very good at planning my life I can see that I was oblivious, caught up in coping rather than creating.
I’m not saying I’m perfect!
Life will always throw up challenges and curve balls but I do know what I really want and a key part of it is connection with the people I care about.
So, when I found myself saying:
“that would be nice but I’m too busy”
to an invitation to meet up with family in London recently, I stopped and gave it some more thought. Yes, I am busy, but there’s always something to be busy with, I love what we’re creating at Fresh Air Fridays and can easily fall into
“oh, I’ll just do a little bit of work on…”
and a Sunday morning has disappeared. When I reflected on this I realised that I really wanted to go to London so juggled things around to make it happen and am so glad I did because it was fab!
During our ‘Creating a Plan‘ sessions, one of the explorations we do is to reflect on what our perfect day, week or month looks like, becoming aware of it and starting to bring it into existence.
Why not take a pause yourself to reflect on this? Happy creating! Find a session near you, visit our Sessions page.
